Supporting systemic change

This programme area is dedicated to getting to the heart of societies imbalances by challenging the status quo and reimagining broken systems, so more people can live freely and fully as themselves.

Why it matters

Many barriers that hold people back from being themselves are built into the formal structures that shape our lives - from how decisions are made, to who can access specific resources.

These barriers come from biases in these systems and lie at the root of a lot of the inequality we see in the world.

By reshaping the systems themselves, we can create lasting change by building in fairness and the freedom to be yourself, no matter who you are.

Supporting Systemic Change

What it looks like in action with European Network Against Racism

Across Europe, ethnic and religious minorities face racism in their everyday lives - from being shut out of jobs and housing, to seeing themselves misrepresented or erased in the media.

These experiences don’t just cause harm in the moment. They wear away at confidence, dignity and opportunity over time, making it harder for people to be their full selves.

ENAR and Foundation ENAR is tackling this by building strength, solidarity and shared purpose across borders. Their network connects over 150 NGOs across Europe who are working on the front line of change in their own countries.

One way we’re helping the ENAR Network turn connection into action is by creating spaces, both in person and online, where organisations can share knowledge, build solidarity and shape strategies together.

What starts as conversation becomes coordinated action: from research that exposes hidden inequality, to campaigns pushing for fairer policies, or the sharing of resources that help powerful new ideas turn into projects that make change on the ground.

Together, we’re helping build the connections that allow anti-racism work to travel further, grow stronger, and create lasting change across Europe.
